The Troy Pre-Minor tournament team was eliminated from the state tournament by South Bibb Tuesday, falling just two wins shy of a state title.

Troy defeated South Bibb 10-7 Monday to force a rematch between the two teams Tuesday, but lost 12-1 in the second showdown.

“We just couldn’t get the bats going,” said Troy head coach Frank Scarbrough.

The defense, however, was solid.

“We played great defense,” Scarbrough said. “We hit the ball hard several times, but everything we hit, they caught.”

Scarbrough said his team should feel good about its performance at the state tournament since there were some things that were out of the team’s control.

“It just wasn’t our day,” Scarbrough said. “We had two kids wake up this morning with 102-degree fevers and they were throwing up. We had to take one of the kids out of the tournament completely in the second inning today.”

South Bibb went on to defeat Municipal American in the final game of the tournament, meaning that Troy was the only team in the tournament to record a victory over the eventual state champions.

“The kids were pretty excited,” Scarbrough said. “They were the only team to beat the state champions.”

While Troy finished as co-runners-up in the state, they were also able to raise even more money for Miracle Field.
