Troy nearly fought back from an early 7-0 deficit but fell to Westside 8-7 Saturday in the Dixie Boys State Tournament at Eufaula.
Westside sent 12 batters to the plate in the third inning, plating six runs off five hits, three walks and a hit batsman. Troy countered with five runs in the bottom half of the inning. Reid Dickey had the big hit of the inning – a bases-loaded single to center field that plated Brantley Lecroy, Jaylin Lawson and Robert Bennett. His hit cut the deficit to 7-5.
Troy would get within 8-7 by the fifth inning but failed to score in the final two innings.
Lawson Stewart and Jaylin Lawson both scored twice to lead Troy. Benton and Dickey both had a pair of hits.
Troy will play Gordo Sunday at 5:30 p.m. in an elimination game.
