In Tuesday action, Troy Indoor U14 Soccer defeated Montgomery U14 Yellow 8-7 on two goals each from Alex Goerke and Scott McLendon and four goals from James McNeill. Center midfielder Tanner Dansby held off a late surge by Montgomery to seal the victory. Troy U14 took sole possession of first place with the win.
Troy Indoor U18 Soccer also took over first place in their age division with a win over Montgomery U18 Red. After a first-half defensive struggle, that saw Nathaniel Salmon turn in a yeoman performance on his indoor debut at goalkeeper, Troy led 3-2, on goals from Andrew Bentley (one goal, one assist), Douglas McLendon (two goals, three assists), and Mitchell Payne (one goal on a kickoff). Led by an explosive second-half performance from Michael Salmon with six goals and an assist and a second McLendon goal, Troy U18 triumphed 10-8.
“I am so pleased with the positive start to our seasons (U14 and U18) thus far, but we have a long way to go,” Troy head coach Doug McLendon said. “Our kids are having a great time playing some great competition. They’ve shown a lot of character and guts in sticking it out to get the wins.”
Both teams return to action July 10 at the YMCA Indoor Facility in Montgomery. Troy U14 faces Montgomery U14 Green at 7:15 p.m., while Troy U18 rematches with Montgomery U18 Red at 8:15 p.m.
