The Troy Dixie Junior Boys Tournament team wasted no time Tuesday night. After play was pushed back one day because of weather, the Boys from all across the area opened play Tuesday amidst the puddles in the outfield.
Troy scored four runs in the first inning and two in the second inning on Greenville’s 13 year olds in the second game of the opening night of the tournament.
Chandler Avant shut Greenville down through four innings and Troy led 6-0 at press time.
Avant, Tripp Blackmon, Chase Smartt and Blake Craft each scored in the first inning and Brian Adams and Morgan Shaver scored in the second inning. Full recap will be in tomorrow’s Messenger.
In other action, Elba’s Justin Pope took a one-hit shutout into the sixth inning Tuesday evening in a 3-1 win over Eufaula in the first round of the Dixie Junior Boys district tournament at the Troy Sportsplex.
Pope allowed a single in the first inning and a walk in the second inning, but did not allow a run until a two-hit sixth from Eufaula.
For the game, Pope compiled three strikeouts, one walk and three hits in six innings of work for the win.
Elba scored two runs in the third and one in the sixth in support of Pope. Jordin Jones and Patrick Smith scored in the top of the third and Clark Kilcrease crossed home plate in the sixth.
