Dothan — The Troy Angels tournament softball team faced elimination against the Eufaula tournament squad on a warm Saturday afternoon, and the outcome ended Troy’s season. Eufaula rode the momentum wave of a seven-run inning to capture the 10-4 victory.

“The loss knocks us out of the tournament, but we had a pretty good season overall,” Troy head coach Scott Motes said.

Troy and Eufaula were locked up in a tight game until late in the third inning. Troy jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the first inning. Eufaula responded in the second inning with a two-run showing, but Troy reclaimed the lead in the third with two runs of its own.

The bottom of the third inning is where the fate of the Trojans was sealed. Eufaula used Troy errors to slam seven runs on the board and take a commanding 9-3 lead.

Each team added another run down the stretch, but Troy’s comeback efforts in the top of the fifth and final inning came up six runs short.

“We played a lot of close games this season, and I’m proud of the effort,” Motes said. “Going into the third inning we were still in this game with a 2-1 lead. I think the girls played a great game. Now we’ll all get a break after seven straight tournaments to enjoy our summer. It was a great season.”
