Robert Melton

Robert Edwin Melton – an 81 year-old resident of Mobile, passed away at a Pensacola, Fla. hospital on Tuesday, June 16, 2009. He was born to the late Henry and Alpine Melton in Cleveland, Ohio on May 10, 1928, and was raised in Nashville, Tenn.
He received a Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering from Vanderbilt University. As a Licensed Professional Engineer, he worked on atomic energy projects in Oak Ridge, Tenn., the space program in Huntsville, and retired from Ciba-Geigy in 1991.
He was awarded a patent for an Automatic Tube Rolling and Leak Testing Machine. Mr. Melton was a longtime member of Christ United Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Catherine Melton. Mr. Melton is survived by his wife of 58 years, Joann Glover Melton of Mobile; children, Robert E. Melton, II (Colleen) of Savannah, Ga., Thomas G. Melton (Lynn) of Troy, Mary Lee Parenteau (Bob) of Madison, Miss., and Carol Ann Melton of Pensacola, Fla.; six grandchildren, Scott (Lisa), Sara, Christina, Robby, Mary Jo, and Emily; other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held from Christ United Methodist Church on Saturday, June 20, 2009, at 11 a.m. The family will receive friends at the church beginning at 10 a.m.
Interment will be in Pine Crest Cemetery West. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Christ United Methodist Church, 6101 Grelot Rd., Mobile, AL 36609 or to a charity of your choice.
