Carmen Deedy, the author of “Martina the Beautiful Cockroach,” a Pura Belpre Medal honor book, “The Library Dragon,” “The Secret of Old Zeb,” and other popular children’s books will be at the Tupper Lightfoot Memorial Library in Brundidge for two storytelling events at 10 a.m. and 11 a.m. on June 11.
The event is free to kindergarten through 12th grade students. However, tickets are required. The tickets are available at the Tupper Lightfoot Memorial Library on Main Street through June 9.
According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, “Deedy writes for children which she finds fascinating. Yet her own childhood as a refugee is no less fascinating. She became an introspective storyteller with a keen insight into the works of a child’s mind.”
Deedy, of Atlanta, has performed across the United States and Canada including the Disney Institute, the New Victory Theater, the Folger Shakespeare Library and the Kennedy Center as well as the St. Louis Storytelling Festival, the Timpanogos Storytelling Festival and the National Storytelling Festival.
She was a featured teller at the Pike Piddlers Storytelling Festival at the We Piddle Around Theater in Brundidge and the Trojan Center Theater in Troy in January 2009. She also performed for students at Troy Elementary School and Banks School.
