The loss of several key players clearly had an affect on the Charles Henderson High School soccer team as they dropped a non-area game to the Dothan High Tigers Thursday night.

Defeated 5-0, the CHHS Trojans went home with their second loss of the season.

Now the Trojans have to gear up for tournament play.

“We have a couple injured players and three who couldn’t play at all,” said CHHS Head Coach Olaf Lieb.

“That’s why I didn’t really push tonight for us to win. We want them to take time to rest right now and start getting back into the regular training unit.”

Though the Trojans were defeated Thursday, they didn’t go down without a fight.

“The first half we played well defensively, then our goalie misjudged the distance to the ball, and that’s how the first goal was scored,” Lieb said.

But with injured players, the second half took a different turn.

“Our players with injuries started slowing down quite a bit, and they had many more chances on goal in the second half,” Lieb said.

The CHHS soccer team has an area record of 5-1 and an overall record of 9-2.

Lieb said the team will play host to a Sub State qualifying tournament in Troy April 28. If the team is successful in those games, it will head to the State tournament in May.
