Don Maestri shared his wisdom with the Charles Henderson Trojans and Lady Trojans Monday night.
The Troy University men’s basketball head coach opened with jokes, but got into a message of dreaming and striving for the best at the 2008-09 CHHS Basketball Banquet in the CHHS cafeteria.
“You have to dream about what you want and you have to never give up hope in that dream,” Maestri said. “Dreams are powerful things and you can’t let excuses stop you from accomplishing your dreams.”
Awards were handed out after Maestri’s speech.
Erica Henderson took home the MVP, Team Captain, All-Academic, Best Free Throw Percentage and Best Field Goal Percentage awards for the Lady Trojans. Cameron Debose nabbed the Trojan Award and the Most Improved award, Melissa Kennedy received the Rookie of the Year award, Niara Shipman collected the Most Assists, Most Steals and Team Spirit awards and Amiria Blakely earned the Most Rebounds and Most Improved awards.
On the boys’ side, Daris Wilson was the MVP, JaQuann Toney was the Best Defensive Player, Jabari Brown and Steve Baker were the Most Improved, Gerard Pollard and Isiah Wilson nabbed the Best Attitude award and Courtney Brassell and Quez Hall grabbed the Newcomer Award.
