Soccer Trojans win Tuesday evening

Charles Henderson’s soccer team won 2-1 over Valley Tuesday night.

Lloyd Shillabeer and Michael Salmon each had one goal in the victory.

“This win has put us on top of area grid for now,” CHHS head coach Olaf Lieb said. “But this is by far no time to start and relax. We will continue to work with our current strategy, but we will also work on something that will give us the strength and confidence we need to take this to the next level.”

Up next for the Trojans is a game against Eufaula in Troy April 6.

Pike Liberal Lady Patriots fall to LS

The Pike Liberal varsity Lady Patriots (8-6, 3-4 AISA Class 3A Region 1) lost to Lee-Scott 9-1 Tuesday afternoon.

Shelby Broadway took the loss on the mound, allowing nine runs, five unearned, on five hits, striking out four and walking one.

Rebecca Farrar had the Lady Patriots’ lone hit on the day and Jodi Long scored the only run.

Jessica Washington again stung Pike. This time she did her damage on the mound in the form of a one-hitter. She allowed one unearned run and struck out six batters.

Former Troy coach lands back in AU

Auburn made it official Tuesday when it named Wayne Bolt the football team’s Director of Football Relations. Bolt was an assistant coach at Auburn for two stints, from 1981-85 and in 1990, under Pat Dye.

He coached for new Auburn coach Gene Chizik at Iowa State the last two years.

Bolt’s 31-year coaching career also included stops at East Carolina, Wyoming, Clemson, Troy, and UAB. -Birmingham News
