The Charles Henderson High Lady Trojans and the Goshen High Lady Eagles both made it to round two in the Trojan Classic tournament.
The Eagles soared above Loveless Academic Lady Tigers with a 2-0 win in the first round, but fell to the St. Paul Lady Saints 6-0 in the second round of the tournament.
Dee Hughes, the coach of the Lady Eagles, said she was proud of her team’s performance. “This was the furthest we have ever gone in this type of tournament. We were facing a higher classification of schools, and my girls upped their level of play,” Hughes said. “They really showed that they deserve to be at these levels and that they can compete with any classification.”
The Lady Trojans took down the Ariton Lady Purple Cats 5-4 in the first round of the tournament, but the Kinston Lady Bulldogs defeated the Lady Trojans in the next round 3-0.
Steve Haug, the coach for the Lady Trojans, said that his team is showing improvement.
“We’re improving, and we’re starting to hit the ball,” Haug said. “We go into tournaments to learn more about our weaknesses, and we’re definitely improving.” Melissa Kennedy, a freshman with the Lady Trojans, said that the Lady Trojans worked well together as a team. “I think we all worked really well together, and we did great overall as a team. We got better as the day went on.”
