The world-acclaimed Jimmy Dorsey Orchestra will be in concert at 7:30 tonight at the Claudia Crosby Theater on the campus of Troy University. Tickets are $20 for adults and $5 for students, including Troy University students with an ID. Tickets will be available at the door.
Jimmy Dorsey and his orchestra had 11 number-one hits in the 1930s and 1940s. The orchestra was one of the most popular Big Band sounds of the times.
The Glenn Miller Orchestra had performed at the Cosby Theater and the response was so overwhelming that the sponsoring Troy Arts Council wanted to bring another Big Band orchestra to Troy.
The featured singer for the orchestra is Nancy Knorr and the band will be conducted by Bill Toole.
Stephanie Baker, TAC publicity chair, said the concert is an opportunity for people in the Pike County area to experience Big Band, Swing and Dixieland music live and right here at home.
