Lady Eagles ready for takeoff

The Goshen Lady Eagles are coming off a good season and they all prepared in the offseason.

“We have gotten more experience this summer,” GHS head coach Dee Hughes said. “Pitching will definitely be a strength for us this year.”

The pitcher who shone brightly towards the end of last season, Alli Warrick, is back this year. The Lady Eagles only lost one senior off last year’s squad and Hughes said she has pulled up a few girls from the JV squad that went 20-3 last year.

“Hitting wise we have a lot of our girls back from last year and hopefully we will be able to keep getting better in that area,” Hughes said. “We will be hurting defensively because we are missing our shortstop from last year who was our only senior.”

The Lady Eagles first baseman from last year will not be on the team this year either and Hughes said she is looking at shifting some players around to make it work. She said this year’s squad will be a young group, but they should be all right.

The Lady Eagles will not rely on one aspect of the game this year, much like last year.

“We had a good mixture of speed and power last year and I think we will have that again this year,” she said.

Goshen opens the season at home against Ariton Feb. 16.
