Going to nationals has become a habit for the Charles Henderson Middle and High school archery teams.

The teams participated in the National Archery in Schools Alabama state championship Tuesday at the Jefferson Civic Center in Birmingham. Both teams grabbed a second place finish at the meet.

“It went pretty good for us,” high school coach Buddy Hendrix said. “There were probably 50 schools there and it felt good to place second.”

The high-school aged group also placed two shooters in the top three.

Chris Hendrix came in second place in the Male competition and Cinnamon Wilson placed third in the Female division.

“There were lots of kids there and we were really impressed with the effort of our shooters,” Hendrix said.

On the middle school side there were no individual awards, but coach Susan Fountain said the day was a fun time.

“We were happy about our placement and a lot of our top shooters didn’t do as well as they normally do, but all of them did what they had to for second place.”

Fountain said the day was a good day overall for the Troy teams.

“We came up here and had a good time,” she said.

Both squads qualified for the national competition in Louisville, Ky. later this year.
