The Lady Bulldogs trailed big heading into the second quarter, but Pike County never backed down and left Goshen with a 43-31 win over the Lady Eagles.

“I told them Friday that if they can’t get up for their rival then they can’t get up for anybody,” PCHS head coach Kasey Parker said. “And they came out here and played like I have always known they could. I am very proud of them because it is clicking at the right time because our next game is in the area tournament.”

The Lady Bulldogs (4-14) went on a 40-19 run after trailing 12-3 at the beginning of the second quarter. Tierra Hall nailed 8-of-10 free throws in the fourth quarter to ice the game for Pike County.

Goshen’s Lady Eagles lost intensity after that blistering start and head coach Lindsey Hornbuckle was not satisfied with how her girls played after that first quarter.

“It just seems like we gave up,” Hornbuckle said. “We got outhustled and outplayed and then we would rush down the court and not set up our plays.”

Hall led the Lady ‘Dawgs with 24 points. Ronique Boyd added six points and Kim Hamilton had five points.

Destinie Barnes led the Lady Eagles with nine points and nine rebounds. Diamond Cottrell added eight points, 10 rebounds and five steals. Ivia Pollard had five points.

The Lady Bulldogs travel to Abbeville for a first-round area tournament matchup with Headland Thursday at 5 p.m.

The Lady Eagles will host the area tournament and face Highland Home Thursday at 7 p.m.
