When the Pike County Bulldogs came back to school from the holiday break they found out they would have a new head coach for the 2009 season. Brad Waggoner headed home to Georgia and for the second time in as many years the Pike County school board was hunting a head football coach.

Pike County Schools superintendent Mark Bazzell said the process is moving along nicely.

“We are in the process of conducting interviews and hopefully we will find someone by Feb. 16,” Bazzell said. “We had 35 applications turned in as of Friday and we are still receiving applications. And of those 35, 10 applicants have previous head coaching experience.”

Bazzell said the application process closes Feb. 10 and the board hopes to have a new head coach by the time of the February meeting Feb. 16.

“We are pleased with the interest in the job and we are also pleased with the quality of the applicants,” Bazzell said. “We will work through this process and we hope to make a decision on the night of Feb. 16.”
