Pike Liberal Arts School’s JV boys’ basketball team suffered only two losses this season and the squad has been rewarded for their play this year.

The JV boys will participate in the 2009 AISA Class 3A State Junior High Invitational tournament Saturday.

“I am just proud of what our kids have accomplished this year,” PLAS head coach Bob Pickett said. “They really came together after the Christmas break and we won eight straight games.”

The Patriots (11-2) travel to Glenwood Friday for their final game before the tournament and travel to Lee-Scott Saturday for the first game of the tournament. The No. 2 seed, PLAS will face No. 7 seed Glenwood in the first round at noon in Auburn.

The No. 1 seed for the single elimination tournament is Lee-Scott. The Patriots handed Lee-Scott their only loss of the year in Auburn earlier this season.

The Patriots’ only two losses were a two-point loss to Hooper in the first game of the season and Lee-Scott later in the year.

Lee-Scott will face No. 8 seed Tuscaloosa Saturday at 11 a.m. . Other games include, No. 3 seed Prattville Christian against No. 6 seed Hooper at 8 a.m. and No. 4 seed Macon-East against No. 5 seed Morgan at 9 a.m.

If the Patriots win the opener they will face the winner of the Prattville Christian-Hooper game in the second round at 5 p.m. The championship game will be played at 7 p.m.

“Our guys have stepped up and played well under pressure,” Pickett said. “And now we are going to try and get a state championship.”
