Services for Martha Berry Byrd, 84, of Troy who died January 5, 2009 at Troy Health and Rehabilitation Center will be at 12 Noon January 10, 2009 at St. Paul A.M.E. Church with Harrison Funeral Home officiating.
Burial will be in Carroll Street Cemetery under the direction of Harrison Funeral Home of Troy.
Ms. Byrd was born November 17, 1924 in Eufaula. Her parents were Will and Matilda Berry. She was a graduate of Academy Street High School and a retired custodian at Troy University. She attended Saint Paul A.M.E. Church and had a love for cooking, decorating and traveling and was known to some as Ma “B”, a name given to her by her nephew, Clarence Hall, Jr.
Her footprints in the sand reflect three generations of love, joy, peace and happiness.
She leaves to cherish her memories a devoted and loving daughter, and son-in-law, Patricia and Willie Thomas; three sisters, Troy Lee Ellington and Margaret Frost of Eufaula and Essie Mae Wright of Hanes City, Florida; two sisters-in law, Ruth Byrd and Mel Warren of Troy; seven grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Pall bearers will be James Davis, Earnest Barnes, Willie Scott, Samuel Owuor, Edem Akouete and Julian Allagan.
Honorary pallbearers will be Stewards and Trustees.
Floral bearers will be members of the Julia Harris Missionary Society.
