Troy University junior defensive end Brandon Lang, a first-team All-Sun Belt Conference selection, received another award today.
Lang, a native of Tucker, Ga., was named as the League’s Defensive MVP by The Sporting News, which released its selections for Offensive MVP, Coach of the Year and Freshman of the Year for each conference as well.
Lang bounced back this year after missing the final nine games of 2007 with a knee injury to lead the Trojans with 16.5 tackles for loss and 9.5 sacks. He started the final nine games of the regular season following a knee injury, similar to the one he suffered, ended the year for senior Kenny Mainor.
Lang leads the Sun Belt Conference in sacks and is currently 11th in the nation. He ranks second in the league in tackles for loss and is 13th nationally. He broke former Trojan DeMarcus Ware’s school record for sack yardage in a season and is closing in on another Trojan, Osi Umenyiora, for career sack and tackle for loss yardage.
Lang and the rest of the Trojans (8-4) will continue practice today in Troy as they prepare to face Southern Miss in the R+L Carriers New Orleans Bowl.
The team will report to New Orleans on Wednesday and will square off with the Golden Eagles (6-6) on Sunday evening at the Louisiana Superdome.
Tickets for the R+L Carriers New Orleans Bowl are available through the Troy University Athletics Ticket Office. Call 877-878-9467 for information or to place your order.
