TUSCALOOSA – Madolyn Clipson, 85 of Tuscaloosa, died Dec. 18, 2008, at Hospice of West Alabama. Services will be 10:00 A.M. Saturday at First United Methodist Church of Tuscaloosa with the Rev. Dr. Ken Dunivant officiating.
Burial will be 3 p.m. Saturday at Green Hills Memorial Park in Troy with Heritage Chapel Funeral Home, A Dignity Memorial Provider Of Tuscaloosa, directing. The family will receive friends following the service at First United Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. William F. Clipson.
Survivors include her daughter, Kathryn Clipson Jones, Birmingham; her son, William Richard Clipson, Memphis, Tenn.; her sister, Doris Chambers Terry, Destin, Fla.; her grandchildren, James Albert Brock, Birmingham, and Mary Kathryn Brock, Birmingham.
She was a native of Troy and graduated in 1961 with a Bachelor of Science from Troy State University. She earned her Masters of Arts in Education from the University of Alabama in 1969. She taught at the Troy State business department for seven years and taught business classes for more than 25 years throughout her career.
She retired from the university in 1986 as associate professor and in 1985 was named outstanding Business Educator in the state of Alabama.
She was a past president of the executive board on Focus on Senior Citizens; an avid player and teacher of Duplicate Bridge; past president of Encare Club; and an active member of First United Methodist Church. She established the Dr. William F. Clipson and Madolyn Chambers Clipson Endowed Scholarship in the College of Education the University of Alabama.
