Trojans, Lady Trojans dropped

The Charles Henderson Trojans started off strong Friday night against the Jeff Davis Volunteers, but were outscored 45-33 in the second half in Troy and lost 76-61.
The Trojans (2-2) jumped out to an 11-2 lead behind strong play from Justin Davis and Daris Wilson, but Jeff Davis closed the gap by the end of the first quarter and CHHS led 19-15 by the end of the first. The lead was down to 30-28 at halftime.
The two teams battled back-and-forth in the third quarter with four lead changes in the quarter before JD pulled away to end the quarter. The Volunteers ended the quarter on a 10-3 run to take a 53-47 lead and they never looked back, outscoring the Trojans 20-16 in the final quarter.
The pressure defense of the Volunteers forced CHHS to make mistakes down the stretch and the Trojans were never able to come back on Jeff Davis. The Trojans also had 25 turnovers.
Davis led the Trojans with 18 points and six rebounds. He had one blocked shot and one steal. Wilson chipped in seven points and eight assists. Courtney Brassell had six points, four rebounds and three blocks. Jabari Brown contributed seven points and two assists.
The Lady Trojans (1-2) also led early in their contest with Jeff Davis, only to let it slip away late in the game Friday, losing 54-44.
CHHS jumped out to an early 2-0 lead, but JD grabbed a 4-2 lead and did not trail again all night. The Lady Trojans made the game interesting, but Jeff Davis had nearly 40 rebounds to CHHS’ 11 on the evening.
The score at the half was 33-15 in favor of Jeff Davis, but the Lady Trojans made it a game in the second half, cutting that lead to 47-40 with 4:34 to play in the game.
But the Lady Volunteers played keep away and knocked down free throws when they needed them to ice the game.
Niara Shipman led the Lady Trojans with 23 points, two rebounds, three assists, two steals and three blocked shots. Erica Henderson added 11 points, one rebound, five assists, two steals and one block. Amiria Blakely had four points, three rebounds and one assist.
The CHHS B team also lost to Jeff Davis, 48-40 Friday night.
