Time for practice

The teams are picked, and it’s practice time for Troy’s recreation basketball teams. The Sixers were hard at work Friday night preparing for the upcoming season, and they are ready for game time.

“It was our first practice tonight,” Jacovey Jones said. “It was fun. We definitely have got to keep our hands up and pay attention though.”

The team worked on simple drills to tone their ball handling skills, and they even worked on a few defensive schemes to stop the opposition.

“We learned how to dribble the ball,” Nicholas Levens said. “I just enjoy having fun with teammates.”

Defensive footwork was a big part of the practice, and the team learned the importance of keeping their opponents off of the scoreboard as much as possible.

“We learned a 1-2-1 defense tonight,” Lathan May said. “It went good. I’ve been pretty excited for a long time.”

The wait has been a long one for the basketball playing crew, but the time is growing very close.

“I’ve been waiting for like six months,” Alex Bland said. “It’s good that it’s finally here.”

The Sixers, like any team, have one main goal.

“We want to go all the way,” Bryson Locke said.

The Sixers and all of the recreation basketball teams will be in action very soon. All of the games will be played at the recreation center.
