Deanna Ammons

Deanna Kirkland Ammons, a resident of Troy and a native of Newville, died late Thursday morning, December 4, 2008, at her home in Troy. She was 70.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. Saturday, December 6, 2008, in the Holman-Headland Mortuary Chapel, Headland, Alabama, with Reverend Hugh D. Kirkland, Jr. officiating and a eulogy to be given by an uncle, Jay Shelley. Burial will follow in the Echo Cemetery in Echo, Alabama. The family will receive friends from 11:30 until 1:00 P.M. Saturday at the mortuary in Headland. At other times, the family will be at the home of a daughter, Lori Brady, 115 Mallard Drive, Troy.
Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to Wiregrass Hospice, Inc., P.O. Drawer 2127, Dothan, AL. 36302.
Mrs. Ammons was a native of Newville and formerly lived in Echo, Ashford, Midland City and Thomas Mill Creek on Lake Eufaula before moving to Troy in 2004. She was a member of the Echo United Methodist Church. A devoted wife and loving mother, Mrs. Ammons was preceded in death by her husband of fifty-three years, Malcom G. (Mac) Ammons, her father, Oren Etheredge Kirkland and a sister, Kathy Ostermeyer.
Surviving relatives include two daughters, Pam Ammons, Chelsea, AL.; Lori Brady and husband, Tim Brady, Troy, AL.; a son, Tommy Ammons, Sr. and wife, Jennifer Ammons, Skipperville, AL.; her mother, Agnes Shelley Kirkland, Newville, AL.; two sisters, Elaine Whiddon, Headland; Barbara Harris and husband, David Lee Harris, Headland; six grandchildren, Stephanie Portera and husband, Paul Portera, Emily Kemp, Christopher Kemp, Justin Brady, Tommy Ammons, Jr. and wife, Monica Ammons and Shelley Ammons; a great-grandson, Grayson Ammons; aunts, Jean Sprouse and husband, CurtisSprouse, Dothan; Martha Frances Givens, Headland; Betty Kirkland, Newville; Wvenette Parrish and husband, Harold Parrish, Birmingham; Lanette KirklandCulbreth and husband, Rudy Culbreth, Dothan; uncles, Jay Shelley, Trussville; Joe Ed Kirkland and wife, Marjorie Kirkland, Newville; special friends,Gerethia Jackson, Martha Thomas, LaSandra Hill and Carla Roberson; several nieces and nephews.
Serving as active pallbearers will be Steve Whiddon, Stanley Whiddon, Michael Roland, Martin Pilcher, Nick Brady and Michael Allan Ostermeyer.
