The wait is over for the Pike County Lady Bulldogs basketball team.

The Lady Bulldogs are on the road tonight taking on Elba for their much anticipated season-opener.

“They are ready for a game, and I’m ready for a game,” new head coach Kasey Parker said.

Parker is in her first season as the girls’ coach at PCHS, and she believes tonight will tell a lot about the team and how the season may unfold.

“They do a great job and do well in practice,” Parker said. “It’s going to come down to whether or not they can remember the plays and execute them.”

Parker hopes the team can establish an inside presence early on the offensive side with Ashley Flowers in the post.

“Ashley is about 6 ft. tall and she’ll be a big contributing factor,” Parker said. “If the other team will acknowledge her, it will free up our guards on some shots.”

Elba is coming off of a 77-24 loss to Andalusia, and Parker said the game tomorrow can help the team see where it stands early in the season.

“We’re going to find out how good we are real quick,” Parker said.

The Lady ‘dawgs will start two eighth graders, a freshman, a junior and a senior tonight.

The game is set to tip-off at 5:30 pm at Elba High School.
