Patrician rolls to A championship

The Patrician Academy Saints rolled to their first state title in nearly 20 years Friday night with a 30-14 victory over South Choctaw Academy in the AISA Class A title game at Movie Gallery Stadium.

The Saints put up 314 yards on the ground in the win and never attempted an extra point, scoring on three of their four two-point conversion attempts.

The Saints spread the wealth running the ball, as BJ Boykin had 116 yards and a touchdown on 22 carries, Justin Brannan had 66 yards and one touchdown on eight carries, Michael Gibson had 46 yards and one touchdown on five carries and Brandon Meeks had 69 yards on five carries.

Patrician (12-0) held South Choctaw (10-3) to 140 total offensive yards while putting up 327 while on offense.

Ory Turner led the Patrician defense with six tackles, three for a loss, two sacks, one forced fumble, one fumble recovery, one pass breakup and one interception. Brannan added six tackles, three for a loss and one fumble recovery.

Matt Phillips and E.J. Moore each recovered a fumble for the Rebels.
