Trojans’ skid continues
MIAMI – Despite shutting out the Golden Panthers in the second half, Troy managed just one shot in the match and fell 1-0 to FIU in Sun Belt soccer action on Sunday.
Stephanie Haley attempted the Trojans’ only shot in the first half, as Troy struggled offensively in the second half.
Ashley Branham recorded double-digit stops for the fourth time in 2008 and the second consecutive game with 10 on Sunday.
Her lone error allowed FIU’s only goal to score off the foot of Kassondra Sorzano.
“FIU was the better team today and they deserved the win,” head coach Chris Bentley said.
Leading at halftime, the Troy Trojans allowed four goals in the second half to drop Friday’s match to Florida Atlantic 4-1 in Sun Belt soccer action.
Bridget Duke started the scoring with her sixth goal of the season off a free kick. She finished the day with four shots on goal to lead Troy (6-8-2).
Pacing Florida Atlantic was Lauren Hyvonen with two goals. Jannica Tjeder and Natalie D’Oria also scored for the Owls.
“Give credit to FAU, they did a great job tonight. We just did not do what we needed to do in the second half,” head coach Chris Bentley said.
Despite allowing the four goals, Troy keeper Ashley Branham recorded 10 saves for the match. She now has 96 saves on the year.
