Anna Tatishvili defeated Georgie Stoop to claim the USTA Tennis Classic of Troy singles championship Sunday. Tatishvili battled through an injured foot the entire tournament, but she managed to pull through in every match en route to the championship.

“I injured my foot at the beginning of the tournament,” Tatishvili said “Every match was tough for me. From the first point of the tournament to now, every point was a battle.”

Tatishvili played in the Troy Classic for the first time this year, and she said she enjoyed the tournament and the atmosphere.

“I really like it here,” Tatishvili said. “It’s very nice here and the director does a great job with the tournament.”

Tatishvili said the best part of the tournament for her came at the end.

“Definitely today was the best part of the week,” Tatishvili said. “A win today gets me closer toward my goal. I want to get in the Top-150 in the rankings, and today got me a lot closer. I should be around 154 now.”

Tatishvili’s championship win wraps up action at the Sixth Annual USTA Tennis Classic of Troy.

Anna Tatishvili defeated Georgie Stoop 7-6(4), 6-4.

Saturday’s action at the classic started with the singles semi-finals, and the action ended with the doubles championship. Raquel Kops-Jones and Abigail Spears claimed the doubles championship, defeating Angela Haynes and Sunitha Rao.

The pair enjoyed their time in the Troy Classic, and they are proud to have claimed the doubles title.

“We had some close matches through the tournament,” Kops-Jones said. “We played pretty solid through the week. It feels good to play well and win.

“This tournament was great. The director was really nice, and was always asking us if we needed anything.”

Spears agreed and said chemistry played a big part in their success on the court.

“We have played seven or eight tournaments together,” Spears said. “We’re really good friends, and I think that plays a big part of it. Definitely the more you play with someone a lot you know where they are moving. It feels good to win here. The courts are very nice, and it’s always good to win.”
