Senior quarterback Tyreese Wingard led the Goshen Eagles past region rival R.C. Hatch in Uniontown 44-14 Friday night. Wingard had a hand in five of the Eagles’ six touchdowns.

“Ty really stepped up and played well for us in that game,” GHS head coach Joe Thornton said. “He threw the ball real well and he had a huge punt return.”

Wingard connected with senior tight end Austin Bennett for two scores, hit sophomore running back Marcus Jackson for another through the air, opened the scoring with a 40-yard TD run and returned a punt 60 yards for a score.

Jackson rushed in for the other touchdown for GHS (3-3, 2-2 AHSAA Class 2A, Region 3).

The Eagles held a 31-0 lead at halftime and Thornton said it was a great all-around effort.

“It was a good win for us,” Thornton said. “We came out flat, but we played well enough to get some points and our defense held us in the game. We also had some great plays from our special teams.”

After a two-game stretch that saw the Eagles lose by a combined score of 82-14, the Eagles are now on a two-game win streak and have outscored opponents 95-30 in those two games.

“We have gotten better through the year,” Thornton said. “We have two sophomore running backs who have really improved and our offensive line is now clicking. Defensively we have been able to do some things that make us better and we had some changes up front that helped us.”

Thornton said his team would be ready to play next week.

“We have Homecoming next week and the guys are always fired up when Homecoming rolls around,” he said. “And if we can win out we will have a great shot at making the playoffs for sure.”

The Eagles host Marion for Homecoming next week and kickoff is slated for 7 p.m.
