A four-vehicle wreck involving a school bus stalled traffic on U.S. 231 North at lunchtime Friday. No one was seriously injured in the accident, but drivers of two of the vehicles involved were shaken.
“I was in the turning lane and there was a bunch of traffic coming the other way,” said Stephanie Massey of Enterprise. “The two lanes of traffic stopped for me.” Massey, driving a black Mazda was attempting to turn left across U.S. 231 into Troy Plaza Loop on the way to her job at Ruby Tuesday’s.
“But there was somebody coming in the (other) turning lane,” she added.
That somebody was Marley Hughes of Troy, whose vehicle collided with Massey’s, sending Hughes’ white sedan into a Cadillac waiting at the stop sign and Massey’s vehicle spinning before it came to rest under the back end of a Pike County school bus stopped at the red light.
“She just went under me,” said Carolyn Coleman, the bus driver. No students were on the bus at the time.
Jonathan Deveridge of Troy was the driver of the Cadillac. “It’s crazy how it happened,” he said. “I was just sitting here at the stop sign and I couldn’t go anywhere.”
The wreck was under investigation by the Troy Police Department.
