Lady Trojans suffer home loss to Tigers

The Lady Trojans of Troy grabbed the third set from the Eufaula Lady Tigers Thursday night after falling into a 2-0 hole, but could not muster another set win falling 3-1 (11-25, 16-25, 25-18, 14-25).

“I told them that if they were waiting on me to yell at them there was no way I could do that,” CHHS head coach Jennifer Sikes said. “I wanted it for them, but it seems like when we win one we get up, but then they just went flat.”

Sikes literally could not yell at her team, as she has been suffering from bronchitis for nearly two weeks now.

Sikes tried to keep the losing streak away in this match, pulling Becca Hartley from the JV squad to play libero for CHHS (2-5, 0-4 AHSAA Class 5A, Area 3).

“I mixed things up and did something I have never done since the libero came into play,” she said. “I put Becca at libero and tried to get something started. She did good out there and our girls are getting better. We are getting there.”

No matter what happens with the score, Sikes said one aspect of this year’s Lady Trojans has her excited about the season.

“The right attitude is definitely there,” Sikes said. “They are disappointed when they lose, but they don’t get down on themselves and they don’t get bad attitudes. I can tell that they are not giving up and that makes a difference.”

In the match junior Nick Jones had three service aces, four assists and one dig and sophomore Sam Kitchens had 11 assists.

The CHHS freshmen have a tri-match with Barbour County Middle School and Goshen Sept. 15. The freshmen face D.A. Smith Middle School Sept. 22. The varsity gets back into swing of things Sept. 23 against Ariton in Ariton.
