Douglas R. Benton

Graveside services for Douglas R. Benton, 76, who died Saturday, June 30, 2007, at his residence in Troy, will be at 10 a.m. in Green Hills Memorial Park Cemetery in Troy with Chaplain Marvin Vickers Jr. and the Rev. Bo Weed officiating and Skeen Funeral Home directing. There will be full military rites by Charlie's Angels.

Visitation will be from 5 until 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Mr. Benton was born Feb. 3, 1931, in Barbour County to the late Water Glenn Benton and Ruth Brook Benton.

He was a high school graduate and had retired as the owner of Benton Radio and T.V.

Mr. Benton was a member of Southside Baptist Church and Troy Lodge #56.

He was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Ollie Joe Patterson.

He is survived by his wife, Bobbie Lindsay Benton of Troy; two sons, Robert and Michael Benton; three daughters, Helen and Jack Thweatt, Connie and Donnie Knotts and Marsheela Brasher; six grandchildren, Jessica and Robert Orozco, Adrienne Thweatt, Taylor Brasher, Michael Benton, Robert Benton and Kayla Benton; daughter-in-law, Kimberly Benton; brother, Walter Benton; best friend, Jerry Barron; and several nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers are Jack Thweatt, Robert Orozco, Jerry Barron, Donnie Knotts, Paul Outlaw and Davis Doggett.

The family requests that memorials be made to Southside Baptist Church, Lighthouse Hospice or the American Cancer Society.

William Edward Jordan Sr.

William Edward Jordan Sr., age 87 of Troy, died Friday, June 29, 2007, in Troy.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, July 1, 2007, at 4 p.m. from the chapel of Dillard Funeral Home in Troy with the Rev. Otis Derrah officiating.

Burial will follow in the Mt. Moriah Cemetery. Dillard Funeral Home in Troy directing.

Visitation will be held Sunday July 1, 2007, from 3 until 4 p.m. at Dillard Funeral Home in Troy.

Survivors include, children, William E. (Joann) Jordan Jr. of Dadeville, Henry L. (Gail) Jordan of Troy, Ned C. (Melma) Jordan Sr. of Goshen, Oliver Terry (Faye R.) Jordan of Troy, Wendy Ellen (Robert) Macleod of Hillsborough, N.C. ; 11 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren.

Serving as pallbearers will be William Jordan III, Thomas J. Jordan, Alan Scott, Joseph Scott, Rodney Jordan and Ned Cary Jordan Jr.

R.T. &#8220Robert” Townsend

Funeral services for R.T. &#8220Robert” Townsend, who died June 20, 2007, at Columbia University New York Presbyterian Hospital in New York, were held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church in Linwood with the Rev. Larry G. Bland, pastor, officiating.

Burial was in the church cemetery with George F. Grubbs Funeral Home directing.

Mr. Townsend was born to the late Gene and Ruth Townsend on Jan. 18, 1933, in Linwood.

At an early age, R.T. confessed his love for Christ at New Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church in Linwood.

He received his education in the Pike County School System. After finishing school, he enlisted in the United States Army. With his faithful service, Mr. Townsend received an honorable discharge from the Army. Upon retiring to the United States, he relocated to Detroit, Mich. In Detroit, Chrysler and the Sheraton Cadillac Hotel employed him. He later relocated to New York. In New York, he was employed by the Department of Sanitation until his retirement.

Mr. Townsend was married to Rosella Townsend.

He had a love for hunting and fishing on his boat. Mr. Townsend was a man who loved his family and friends and spending time with them.

He is survived by his wife, Rosella Townsend; nine children, Robert Jr. (Dottie), Larry, Lynette (Spencer), Patricia (John), Tyrone, Carl and Darryl, all of New York, Darnell of Maryland and Jeanette of Birmingham; 23 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Carrie Ethridge, Rubie Townsend and Annie Siler of Troy; one brother, James (Millie) Townsend of Detroit; one uncle, Obie (Mary) Thomas of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.; three sisters-in-law; four brothers-in-law; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Pallbearers are the United States Army, and flower bearers are family and friends.

Frances Peyer Long

Frances Peyer Long, 86, of Orange City, Fla., died in Orange City, Fla., Monday, June 25, 2007.

Visitation will be held at Dillard Funeral Home in Brundidge on Saturday, June 30, 2007, from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m.

The funeral service will be held at Dillard Funeral Home Chapel in Brundidge on Saturday, June 30, 2007, at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Averyt Walker officiating.

Burial will follow at Ramah Cemetery.

The pallbearers are Butch Phelps, Larry Long, Bruce Long, Terry Long, Lloyd Long and Wes MeHaffey.

She is survived by children, Susan P. Weed of Banks, Herb (Karen) Peyer of Colorado Springs, Colo., David (Regina) Peyer of Deltona, Fla., and Larry (Vicki) Long of Banks; three grandchildren; several great grandchildren; sister, Clara (Virgil) Elliott of Winter Haven, Fla.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, Herbert Peyer and Joseph E. Long.
