Russ Jinright is so happy with his team right now that he gave his players on the Fourth of July off.
“We're doing something we've never done before,” said Troy Post 70 head coach about celebrating the holiday.
Troy swept Monday's double header against Enterprise Post 73 to give the local team a 22-6 record. Jinright told the team they could have the rest of the week off for family vacation and to relax.
In Game 1, Troy won 14-0 after a stellar pitching performance by David Fleming. He pitched a complete game, allowing no runs and striking out nine.
“He did real well. He's come around really well lately,” Jinright said.
Parker Sanders went 3 for 3, and seven other players all had one hit in the first game.
In Game 2, Troy won 6-3.
William Teal went the distance against Enterprise. He pitched a complete game, gave up three runs on three hits and struck out seven.
All three runs for Enterprise came in the fourth inning after two walks and two infield singles.
“Infield singles are going to happen. That's baseball,” Jinright said.
Tanner Hensley went 2 for 2, Jonathan Wade went 2 for 4 and Mitch McCloud went 1-1.
There were zero errors by the Troy defense in both games.
“Perfect defense tonight,” Jinright said. “Right now we're playing really well. If we keep playing like that, then we'll do really well (in district).”
Troy Post 70 will play its next game at 5:30 p.m. on Monday at Charles Henderson High School.
