LUVERNE - Taylor Sunday had two hits, including a double, and scored two runs, while Justin Henderson and Shane Lewis combined on a one-hitter Wednesday as Pike Liberal Arts defeated Crenshaw Christian 6-1.
Henderson pitched four hitless innings for the Patriots. He struck out eight and hit a batter. He gave up an unearned run in the second inning when a batter reached on an error, stole second base and scored on another error.
Lewis was solid in his three innings, giving up a leadoff single to Chafin Johnson, the Cougars' only hit.
Pike took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning. Tyler Wise reached on an error, went to second when Lewis was hit by a pitch, and scored when he stole third and came home when the throw sailed into left field.
Sunday, Wise, Lewis and Chase Avant all scored in a big third inning for the Patriots. They added an insurance run in the sixth, when Sunday doubled and Wise reached on an error.
Wise had a hit and scored two runs. Lewis had one hit and scored a run, as did Avant. Barry Rodgers and Henderson had one hit each.
Pike will play at home Saturday in a three-team round robin against Dixie and Taylor Road. Both baseball and softball teams will be in action.
