Gertrude Scaife Reynolds
Services for Gertrude Scaife Reynolds, who died after a brief illness on Jan. 1, 2007, at Pike Manor Nursing home in Troy, were held at 1 p.m. Monday at Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church in Troy with the Rev. Carl L. Hollis officiating.
Burial was in Carroll Street Cemetery under the direction of George F. Grubbs Funeral Home.
She was born Dec. 6, 1906, in Omega to Bill Scaife and Margaret McMillan Scaife.
She was married to Saul Reynolds, who preceded her in death.
She attended Bethel Baptist Church and then Morning Star Baptist Church in Troy, where she was a faithful member and active in the Ladies' Aide. She also was a member of the Missionary Society and president of the Nurses' Guild. She retired from Green Cleaners.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Bill Scaife and Margaret McMillan Scaife; three sisters, Corene Scaife Neal, Brazil Genesis Scaife and Armiller Scaife Knox; five brothers, Charlie Scaife, J.R. Scaife Sr., Allums Scaife, L.C. Scaife and Paul Scaife; and her first husband, Al Bean.
She is survived by her son, Willie (Elizabeth) Bean of Chicago; a stepson, Edward Bean of San Diego, Calif.; granddaughters, Gloria Henderson and Carolyn Harvey, both of Dayton, Ohio; and four great-grandchildren, three girls and one boy; one sister-in-law, Lula Mae Scaife of Ft. Walton Beach, Fla.; a special niece, Mary Bell Neal; other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Pallbearers and flower bearers were friends of the family.
Lester Beard
Funeral services for Lester Beard, who died Jan. 3, 2007, at Crenshaw County Medical Center, will be held at 11 a.m. today at Macedonia C.M.E. Church, where the Rev. Douglas Perry is pastor and the Rev. Sam Green will be officiating.
Burial will be at the Churchyard Cemetery under the direction of George F. Grubbs Funeral Home.
Lester Beard was born Aug. 25, 1925 to the late Henry Beard Sr. and Pearlie (Allen) Beard of Troy.
He accepted Christ at an early age and was a member of Macedonia Christian Methodist Episcopal Church, where he served as a faithful member until his health failed him.
He worked at General Motors Corp. for 25 years in Saginaw, Mich.
Four brothers preceded him in death, Clarence Beard of Birmingham, Horace Beard and Jessie Beard, both of Detroit, Mich., and Otha Beard of Amityville, N.Y.
He is survived by a son, Henry Beard (Marchita Morgan) of Windsor, Conn.; daughter, Pearl Regina Watts (Lawrence Watts) of Cincinnati, Ohio; goddaughter, Doristine Sankey of Troy; sisters and brothers, Icleane Brundidge and Annie Ruth Beard of Montgomery, Henry Beard Jr. and his wife Nell of Los Angeles, Calif., and Leo Beard of Troy; a host of grandchildren, nephews, nieces, cousins, great-grandchildren, family members and friends; and close friends, Soleman &uot;Buck Colvin, Joe Pugh and J.T. Jones.
Pallbearers and floral bearers will be friends of the family.
Dorothy N. Davis
Services for Dorothy N. Davis, 90, of Leesburg, Ga., who died Monday, Jan. 8, 2007, will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Dillard Funeral Home in Troy with the Rev. Bernie Enzor officiating.
Burial will follow at Green Hills Memorial Park.
Visitation will be held from 6 until 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
A native of Pike County, Mrs. Davis had lived there all of her life before moving to Albany, Ga., two years ago. She was a homemaker, a member of Northside Baptist Church in Troy and the widow of James E. Davis.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Mary White.
She is survived by a daughter, Sybil Norris Marshall of Leesburg, Ga.; three sons, Dan Norris of Dothan, James Ed Norris of Montgomery and Truman Norris of Murfreesboro, Tenn.; a sister, Eva Furlow of Troy; two brothers, Stewart Sunday of Montgomery and Edward Sunday of Birmingham; and 13 grandchildren.

Gus Ellis Jr.
Funeral services for Gus Ellis Jr., 78, of Brundidge, who died at his home, Saturday, Jan. 6, 2007, will be at 2 p.m. today at Dillard Funeral Home in Brundidge with the Rev. Shirlie Ellis and the Rev. Don Wilkinson officiating.
Burial will follow at Mt. Olive Assembly of God Cemetery.
Visitation was from 6 until 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Gus and Maudie Ellis; wives, Endia Myrtle Ellis and Evelyn Ellis; brother, Jerry Ellis; and daughter and son-in-law, Debra and Jerry Haws.
He is survived by a daughter, Martha &uot;Mot&uot; Smith of Brundidge; grandchildren, Sandy (Timmy) Keel of Brundidge, Wiley Brantley of Banks, Derrick Haws of Brundidge and Casey Haws of Brundidge; a sister, Catherine Bryant of Brundidge; brothers, Luther Ellis of Florida and Tom (Clara Mae) Ellis of Florida; step-children, Faye Thomas of Goshen, Elaine Perkins of Brundidge and Larry Lott of Louisiana; step-grandchildren, Shae Lott, Nicole McLoud, Melisa Parish, Chris Lott and Brittany Lott; great-grandchildren, Amber Brantley, Chelsey Brantley, Mikey Brantley and Kayla Lee; step-great-grandchild, Ethan Parish.
Pallbearers will be Rusty Bundy, Shannon Brumbaugh, Dan English, Ronnie Perkins, and Chris Shiver.
Eleanor Flinn Curtis
Funeral services for Eleanor Flinn Curtis, 86, of Luverne, who died Saturday, Jan. 6, 2007, will be at 2 p.m. today at Luverne United Methodist Church with the Rev. Ken Jackson and the Rev. Hamp Kicklighter officiating.
Burial will follow in the Luverne Emmaus Cemetery with Turner Funeral Home of Luverne directing.
Visitation for family and friends was held Monday at the funeral home.
Mrs. Curtis was born Sept. 8, 1920, in Rutledge
She was preceded in death by her parents, Howard Joseph and Cora Revel Flinn; a son, William &uot;Bill&uot; Curtis; husband, Alvin Roy Curtis; brother, Cecil Flinn; and sisters, Ruth Pullen, Annie Laurie Hunt and Thuel Hudgens.
She is survived by her children, Kay and B.F. Gamble of Pensacola, Fla., Henry and Verbie Curtis of Troy, Chris and Debby
Curtis of Montgomery and the Rev. Joe and Michelle
Curtis of Silverhill; one daughter-in-law, Dottie Curtis of Opelika; grandchildren, LCDR Bryan and Renn\u00E9 Gamble, Al and Stephanie Curtis, Randall and Melinda Curtis, Steven and Misty Curtis, Hope Curtis, Scott and Keri Curtis, Beth Yates, Jay and Stephanie Bedsole, Melissa Tomlin, Ricky Curtis, Nancy Hall, Kristen and Erin Curtis; and 20 great-grandchildren; a brother-in-law, Gerald (Alice ) Curtis; and a sister-in-law, Myra (the Rev. Dorothy E. Long
Funeral services for Dorothy E. Long, 76, of Brundidge, who died Saturday, Jan. 6, 2007, will be at 10 a.m. today at Dillard Funeral home in Brundidge with the Rev. Bobby Hood officiating.
Burial will follow in Lakeview Cemetery with Dillard Funeral Home of Brundidge directing.
Visitation was held Monday night at the funeral Home.
Mrs. Long is survived by two daughters, Virginia Churchwell of Georgia and Karen E. Long of Birmingham, and a granddaughter, Rhonda Churchwell of Georgia.
