Rufus Davenport

Services for Rufus Davenport, 83, who died Thursday, Jan. 25, 2007, at his home will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Skeen Funeral Home Chapel in Troy with the Rev. Hollis Bradley officiating and eulogy by his daughter, Brenda Hughes.

There will be a viewing from 1 p.m. until 2 p.m.

Burial will be in Starling Cemetery in Troy under the direction of Skeen Funeral Home of Troy.

Visitation was from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Mr. Davenport was a retired farmer.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Essie Starling Davenport; four brothers, Ervin Davenport, Ross Davenport, D.L. Davenport and R. C. Davenport; five sisters, Rodabell Medaris, Beadie Atwell, Lee Moore, Naomi Taylor and Bessie Harrelson.

Survivors include his wife, Frances Davenport of Troy; children, Linda Nell Johnson of Ariton, Louie and Montana Davenport of Troy, Brenda and Drexel Hughes of Troy, Jill Yaser of Millbrook, Walter and Liz Green of Troy and Vanessa and Jimmy Ellis of Brundidge; sister and her husband, Lucille and Russell Register of Troy; 34 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren;

and several nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Drexel Wayne Hughes Jr., Terry Wayne Hughes, Tye Hughes, Ryan Ellis, Shannon Hughes and Josh Lee.

Honorary pallbearers will be

Terry Sanders, Gary Sanders, Will Davenport, Horace Lisenby, James Harrelson, Royce Davenport, Harvey Lee, Anthony Ellis, Timmy Green and Bryant Davis.

Alvin Stinon

Funeral services for Alvin Stinon, 71, who died on Jan. 25, 2007, at Southeast Alabama Medical Center in Dothan with his family gathered around his bedside in prayer, were held at 10 a.m. Saturday at New Hope Baptist Church with the Rev. Jerry Long, the Rev. Ray Stinson and the Rev. Mack King officiating.

Special music was presented by the Rev. Les Lee and the New Hope Baptist Church Choir.

Burial followed at Good Hope Cemetery in Troy.

There will be a 30-minute viewing prior to the service at the church. Visitation was held from 6 until 8 p.m. Friday at Dillard Funeral Home in Brundidge.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Carroll and Myrtis Stinson, and a step-grandson, Nick Sessions.

Stinson is survived by his wife, Jerrie Wilson Stinson, a son and his wife, Curt and Samantha Stinson, and a granddaughter, Kirstin Stinson, all of the New Hope Community; a step-daughter and her husband, Melanie and Durwood Sessions, a step-son and his wife, Craig and Kristi Maddox, and step-grandchildren, Brooke Sessions, Benton Maddox and Zachary Ellis, all of Troy; brothers and their wives, Robert and Opal Stinson of the Spring Hill Community, and James and Linda Stinson of Tuskeegee; and a sister and her husband, Carolyn and Keith Meeks of Buford, Ga.

Pallbearers will be David Little, Mike Moore, Mervin Stinson, Jerry Stinson, Bobby Lee, Daniel Lee, Zach Legg and Seth Legg.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to New Hope Baptist Church.

William Timothy Brooks

Funeral services for William Timothy Brooks, 95, who died peacefully at Hope Hospice in Cape Coral, Fla., on Monday, Jan. 22, 2007, will be at noon Monday at Dillard Funeral Home Chapel in Troy with Dr. Malone Chandler officiating.

Burial will follow at Orion Methodist Church Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until noon Monday at the funeral home.

Mr. Brooks, who was formerly of Troy, was a warrant officer in the U.S. Navy, serving in World War II, the Korean Conflict and Navy AUTEC.

He had a life of tremendous accomplishments and was loved and deeply respected by all who knew him.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Fannie Brooks; brothers, James Brooks, Phenix Brooks, Joe Brooks and David Brooks; and sisters, Nora Guthrie, Eula Brooks and Myrtle Brooks.

Survivors include a brother, Jacob Brooks; sisters, Frances Young and Mattie Johnson; three daughters, Barbara Jackson, Beatrice Boehm and Brenda Schofield; six granddaughters; six grandsons; six great-grandsons; and five great-granddaughters.
