Palmer Downing

Palmer Downing, 87, passed away Wednesday, March 22, 2006 in Brundidge. The funeral will be at 10 a.m. (Eastern) Saturday, March 25, 2006 at Ivey Funeral Home Chapel in Bainbridge, Ga., with burial at Corinth Free Will Baptist Church Cemetery in Iron City, Ga.

The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. until 8 p.m. Friday, March 24, 2006, at Ivey Funeral Home.

Mr. Downing was born February 14, 1919 in Pike County. He was the son of John Frank Downing and Cora Nina Godwin Downing. He served in the U S Army during World War II. He was a retired farmer and carpenter. He attended Port City Church of God. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred Hudson Downing.

Survivors include four sons, Danny Downing of Dothan, Randy Downing of Bainbridge, Andy Downing of Slocomb and Daniel Downing of Bainbridge; six daughters, Linda Ellis of Brundidge, Martha Hobby of Blakely, Georgia, Shelia Jenkins of Cairo, Ga., Sandra Smith of Bainbridge, Diane Sorrells of Ozark and Donna Jackson of Colquitt, Ga; one brother, Marlin Downing of New Brockton; 24 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

The officiating ministers will be the Revs. Mylan Brookins, Ashley Faulk, Malcom Parker and Rhonda Downing.

Pallbearers will be Clayton Downing, John Ellis, Michael Simmons, Ben Hobby, Justin Downing and Jordan Downing.

Michael Gene Cash

Michael Gene Cash, 58, a resident of Pike Road, died Thursday, March 23, 2006, at home surrounded by his family.

Funeral services will be Saturday, March 25, 2006, at noon at Leak-Memory Chapel with Minister Brad Sullivan officiating.

Burial will follow in Alabama Heritage Cemetery.

He was preceded in death by his father, Ealom Mecarta Cash, and his stepfather, H.A. Welch, Jr.

He is survived by his wife, Latona Presley Cash; son, Kevin Michael Cash and his wife Christine of Milan, Mich.; daughter Kristin Cash Torode and her husband, Jonathan; grandsons Kell Mecarta Cash, Elijah Patrick

Torode, Jon Miles Torode; sisters Rheba and Connie Cash,

sister-in-law Ramona Patterson of Ocean Springs, Miss.; brother-in-law Michael Presley and his wife Cindy and many relatives and friends.

He was a 1969 graduate of Auburn University in Civil Engineering and later obtained a Masters Degree from the University of Florida.

He worked for the State of Alabama Department of Public Health for 36 years.

He most recently served as Director, Emergency Planning and Environmental Monitoring Branch in the Office of Radiation Control.

He served on the Steering Committee of the National Radiological Emergency Preparedness Conference in various roles.

He also worked with the Southern States Energy Board since 1995 on nuclear waste transportation issues.

He was a loving husband, father and grandfather and never met a stranger. His legacy will live on through the lives of his family and friends.

Visitation will be Friday, March 24, 2006, at Leak-Memory Chapel from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m.

Pallbearers will be Tim Goode, Tommy Patterson, Wesley Patterson, Myron Riley, David Turberville and Shelby Womack.

Mario LeDelle Rodgers

Mario LeDelle Rodgers, 25, affectionately known as &uot;Mr. Mario&uot;, a resident of Troy passed away Thursday, March 16, 2006 in Barbour County.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 25, 2006, at noon from the Shady Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Louisville. The Rev. Y.Z. Anglin is pastor.

The eulogy will be delivered by the Rev. David Boykin.

Interment will follow in the Mt. Coney Baptist Church cemetery, Midway.

The memory of &uot;Mr. Mario&uot; will forever be in our hearts.

In addition to his parents, he leaves to cherish his memories four sisters; Latasha Rodgers (Nathan), Sontisa (Michael) Henderson, Marquetta Rodgers, Melinda Rodgers and one step sister, Brenda Rodgers all of Troy; two brothers, Terrance Rodgers, and Cornelius Tarver and two step brothers, Derrick (Nicole) Rodgers, Charles (Teresa) Rodgers;

a grandfather, Eugene Rodgers Jr., Union Springs; nine aunts, Annie Ruth (Anthony MacBride) of Troy; Ruby Rodgers, Troy; Mattie (David) Chambers, Louisville; Evon (Mervin) Boykin, Groveland, FL; Retta Fulpher, Orlando, Fla.; Eula Gray Rodgers, Mattie B. Rodgers, Mary Jean Rodgers all of New York, N.Y., and Christine Rodgers; three uncles, Gene Fulpher, Miami, Fla.; Kenny Rodgers, Orlando, Fla., and Joseph Rodgers, New York, N.Y.; three great aunts, two great uncles, a host of nieces, nephews and a very special friend, Mary Alexander.

Mario will lie in state at the church from 11:00 a.m. until the funeral hour. The Caring Staff of Carter Funeral home will direct all services.
