Lionel Whaley

Lionel Whaley died Thursday, July 28, 2005.

Services will be Saturday, Aug. 6, 2005, at Graveside Community Cemetery at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Carl Hollis officiating.

Visitation will be Friday, Aug. 5, 2005, from 6-7 p.m. at Bell's Liptrot-Dawson Funeral Home.

He was born July 22, 1951, to the late Lamar Whaley Sr. and Lola Lee Whaley of Brundidge. He graduated from Pike County High School in 1969 and attended Alabama State University where he received a bachelor of science degree in business administration. After college he spent 32 years working for Otis Elevator Company and became a successful Business Development manager for the Southeast region. He enjoyed cooking, playing golf and entertaining friends. He was involved with 100 Black Men of Atlanta, Kappa Alpha Psi and was the co-chair of a weekly Friday Board Meeting at the Buckhead Ritz Carlton.

He is survived by his mother, Delores Lola L. Whaley; daughter and son-in-law, Ayanna Crockett Johnson and Kenneth V. Johnson; brothers and sisters-in-law, Lavon (Sonny) and Delores Whaley

and Lamar (Bubba) and Virgie Whaley; sister and brother-in-law, Marchell and Michael Arnold; a niece, Virginia Young Coleman; a nephew, Michael Young; a godson, Brandon M. Monteith and several cousins and close friends.

Virginia Sheppard

Services for Virginia Sheppard, 85, of Troy who died Saturday, July 30, 2005, at Troy Health and Rehab. were at 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 1, 2005 at Skeen Funeral Home Chapel in Troy with Rev. Donnie Dunn officiating.

Burial was in Banks Cemetery under the direction of Skeen Funeral Home of Troy.

Visitation was from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Sunday, July 31, 2005 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Sheppard was born September 12, 1919 in Tullahoma, Tennessee. She was a retired textile worker.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Thomas Sheppard and her parents Emeson Garrett and Vernie

Lee Trawber Garrett.

Survivors include a son and his wife, Gary and Marty Sheppard of Troy; four daughters and their husbands, Betty and Russell Bryant and Christine and Ted Burton of Troy, Vernie and Billy Fortune of Wicksburg and Joyce and Mike Swindall of Troy; eight grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were her grandsons, Steve Stewart, Jeff Fortune, Todd Swindall, Kevin Sheppard, Sam Sheppard and Doran Burton.
