The run-off races for council seats in Brundidge and Troy are today. Polls will be open from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m.
In Troy's District 1 council race, Charlie "Sarge" Dunn Sr. is fighting for the position against Jose Henderson, the current District 1 council member, for the second time in four years.
District 1 voters go to the polls in the community complex gym.
Four years ago, these two candidates met in a run-off. Absentee ballots tipped the scale in Henderson's favor.
In a previous interview with The Messenger, Henderson said that the changes in district lines over the years have made the competition more intense.
"The lines have changed, people are changing their minds." he said.
"I think people don't realize how much progress this city council has made."
Dunn wishes to bring more unity to District 1, "We are just too divided right now." he said. "You know the saying about a house divided don't you?"
Brundidge voters will elect a new District 1 representative today. Lawrence Bowden and Patricia Smith are running off for retiring Sherroll Tatom's position on the council.
The District 1 polls in Brundidge are at the antiques auction building on Main Street.
