Shelby Lamar Starling Sr

Services for Shelby Lamar Starling Sr., 92,of Anniston, formerly of Montgomery, who died in Anniston Monday, April 19, 2004, will be Saturday, April 24, at Dalraida United Methodist Church in Montgomery with the Rev. Fred Fuller officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service in the church parlor. Burial will follow at 3 p.m. at Green Hills Memorial Park in Troy with the Rev. John Carmichael officiating.

Mr. Starling was a native of Troy where he lived during his early childhood. He resided in Montgomery from 1940 to 2000 and resided in Anniston for the past four years. He was a member of the Dalraida United Methodist Church where he held most offices and was a member of the Drifters Sunday School Class.

Mr. Starling helped with the construction of the sanctuary of the church where he was a member for 50 years. He was an excellent musician who loved to play his violin up until his last illness. He was an expert craftsman, carpenter and brick mason.

Mr. Starling was preceded in death by his parents, Jarel and Clara Starling; four brothers, Russell Starling, Charles Starling, Glen Starling and Pugh Starling; and by a sister, Sara Singleton.

He is survived by Evelyn Carmichael Starling, his wife of 65 years, of Montgomery; a son, Shelby Lamar Starling Jr. and his wife Sara Ferrell Starling of Anniston; his sister Annie Claire McDonald of Burleson, Texas; his brothers, Sidney Raymond Starling of Troy and Edwin Marion Starling of Concord, Calif.; three grandchildren, Shelby Lamar Starling III of Birmingham; Laurel Ferrell Starling of Greenville, S.C. and Claire Starling Caballero and her husband Matthew of Jacksonville; and one great granddaughter Olivia Isabella Caballero of Jacksonville.

Pallbearers are David Starling, Walter Folmar, Dr. Jack Jackson, Dr. Douglas Jackson, Dr. Andrew Jackson, Dr. Timothy Jackson and Asher Carmichael. Mr. Starling's nephews will be honorary pallbearers.

In lieu of flowers, the family request memorials be made to the Dalraida United Methodist Church, 3817 Atlanta Highway, Montgomery, AL 36109.
