Gwendolyn Whitehurst Starling

Services for Gwendolyn Whitehurst Starling, 82, of Troy, died Thursday, January 29, 2004 at her home are 10 a.m. Jan. 31 at Dillard Funeral Home Chapel in Troy with the Rev. Steve Rascoe officiating.

Burial will follow in the Mossy Grove Cemetery under the direction of Dillard Funeral Home of Troy.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Jim and Barbara Starling of Troy; a daughter and son-in-law, Sheila and Randy Newman of Troy; three grandchildren, Jay Starling, Prattville, Kama Moore, Fort Walton Beach, Fla., and Jeremy Starling of Fort Walton Beach, Fla.; three great-grandchildren; sister Helen Mitchell of Troy; and two nieces, Mary Richardson of Ozark and Martha Stewart of Montgomery.

Memorial contributions may be made to Wiregrass Hospice of Troy.

Lillian G. Herring

Lillian G. Herring, 88, of Bangor, Maine and Troy, Alabama, wife of the late Cecil H. Herring, died January 28, 2004 at Noble Manor in Troy due to complications of diabetes and heart failure. She was born in Bangor April 26, 1915, the daughter of Charles A. and Annie Idella (Ladd) Sherman. Lillian was a 50 year member of the Tuscan Chapter #148 OES, Sunshine Club for children and a member of the UCT Ladies Club.

Surviving are one daughter, Marjorie and her husband Donald Sawyer, Sr. of Bangor, one son Kenneth R. Herring and his wife Jane, Troy; six grandchildren, Donald C. Sawyer, Jr. and his wife Roxanne of Brewer, Stephen V. Sawyer and his wife Cathy, Jupiter, Florida, Joan Belcher and her husband Steve of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Pamela Robinson of North Berwick, Kelly Jordan and her husband Dewey, Troy, Amy Price and her husband, Greg, Troy, one daughter-in-law, Patricia Sawyer, Chicopee, Mass; ten great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild. In addition to her parents and her husband she was predeceased by one grandson, Thomas C. Sawyer and several brothers and sisters. A graveside service in Pine Grove Cemetery in Bangor will be announced in the spring.
