Margaret E. Jones

Graveside services for Margaret E. Billig Jones, 74, of Tuscaloosa who died Oct. 8, 2003, at DCH in Tuscaloosa will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 11, 2003, at Green Hills Memorial Park in Troy.

Burial will be under the direction of Memory Chapel Funeral Home of Tuscaloosa.

Visitation will be from 7 p.m. until 9 p.m. Friday, Oct. 10, 2003.

Mrs. Jones was born in Greenville, Penn. on Sept. 29, 1929 to the late Irvin George Billig and Mildred Arline Prtichard Billig, the third daughter of one boy and six girls. She graduated from Penn High School in June 1947, two months after marrying Gerald G. Jones, a WWII veteran of the 508th PIR.

For the next 56 years, she joined him in raising a family of six boys and serving her country for 17 years as an Army wife. She bore her first son in Pennsylvania, her next two in Colorado, two at Fort Polk, La., and the last in Nurnberg, Germany. Subsequent to retirement she lived in Andalusia, Troy, Montgomery and Tuscaloosa.

Mrs. Jones was preceded in death by two sons, Robert William Jones, who died in the line of duty as an Alabama State Trooper, and Richard Allen Jones; father, I. G. Billig and mother, Mildred Arlene Billig.

Survivors include her husband, Gerald G. Jones of Tuscaloosa; sons, Dean I. Jones and Gerald G. Jones, II both of Pasadena, Texas, Thomas E. Jones of Birmingham and Timothy R. Jones of Tuscaloosa; sisters, Dottie Meszaros, Nancy Sandate, Jeanette Hall and Wonda Riley and 11 grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Dean Jones, Gerald Jones, II, Thomas Jones, Michael Jones, Jack Jones and Bryan Jones.

Honorary pallbearer will be Timothy Ray Jones.

Jewel Irene Elliott

Graveside services for Jewel Irene Elliott, 83, of Troy who died Wednesday, October 08, 2003 at Edge Regional Medical Center in Troy will be at 10 a .m. Friday, October 10 at Ramah Pirmitive Baptist Church Cemetery on Highway 29 North in Banks with Rev. Claude Adams officiating.

Burial will be under the direction of Skeen Funeral Home of Troy.

Visitation was from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m.Thursday, October 09 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Elliott was born April 08, 1920 in Russell County. She was a retired textile worker.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Archie Tilbert and Willie Earline Collins Meredith; son, David Culpepper; granddaughter, Lisa Hottinger and two brothers, Archie Meredith and James Meredith.

Survivors include a son and his wife, Joseph and Sylvia Culpepper of Dothan; grandsons and their wives, Kim and Kenneth Culpepper of Virginia Beach, Virginia and Phil and Shelley Culpepper of Bowden, Georgia; granddaughters and their husbands, Candice and Dave Charlton of Bethesda, Maryland and Jennifer and Rowell Bernardo of Sanmateo, California, six great-grandchildren; brother, William Meredith of Phenix City; four sisters, Evelyn Culpepper of Troy, Pearl Dease of Banks, Olene Vinson of Troy and Bessie Freeman of Euless, Texas and several nieces and nephews.
