Fall may bring a drop in the temperature, but it doesn't bring a drop in things to do. Instead, it means quite the opposite.
Crisp fall weather brings hometown football games, and what football season would be complete without a homecoming? And you can't have homecoming without a parade.
This year's Troy State University homecoming theme is "There's No Place Like Home," and as usual the Pike County Chamber of Commerce is working hard to make sure the Oct. 18 parade is a reflection of that theme.
"I am particularly interested that the TSU student body voted this as the theme because a large part of those students call Pike County and TSU home for only their college career," said Chamber president Jenniffer Barner. "I am in hopes that this means they feel at home here and want to celebrate that."
The Chamber sponsors the parade and will soon be sending sign-up sheets to local businesses and organizations.
Homecoming week brings many visitors and the Chamber works diligently with Faith Ward and TSU's office of Alumni Affairs to make sure everyone feels at home.
"What better way to celebrate Pike County than to show our visitors that weekend how great it is to call Pike County home," Barner said.
Barner said everyone is invited to have an entry in the parade. Parade entries must have a decorated flatbed float, an antique vehicle or a professional float. For more information, or to request a sign-up sheet for your organization, call the Chamber office.
