Rev. Alphonza Thomas, 52, of Troy, MI died Friday. Funeral services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Greater Bethlehem Baptist Church Detroit with Rev. Randolph Thomas officiating. McFall Brothers Funeral Home of River Rouge MI is in charge of services.

His love for his entire family was evident throughout his lifetime. Not only was he a family man, Alphonza never met a stranger. He was loved and admired by all who knew him. He embraced life with excitement and vigor, especially while enjoying his favorite hobbies, golfing, traveling, playing board games, solving puzzles and watching movies. Everyone will forever miss his wonderful personality and great sense of humor.

Survivors include his devoted wife of nineteen years, Verdis; three children, Alecia, Alphonza, Jr., and Dnesi; two grandchildren, D’Mani and De Anthony; caring parents, Freddie and Fred Frierson and Charlie and Luetta Thomas; three brothers, Keith, Christopher and Brian; five sisters, Brenda, Carol, Denise, Lisa and Kyra; a sweet and loving grandmother, (Granny) Odelia Pace of Salem; two great aunts, Louise Allen of Washington, D.C. and Jewel Hightower of Birmingham; two great uncles, Rev. Lawrence Thomas, Sr.of Ecorse, MI and Walter Pace of Salem; mother-in-law, Sarah Baker of Troy; father-in-law, John Herndon (Idella) of Glenwood; two sisters-in-law, Shelia (Mickey) of Troy and Carolyn of Montgomery; six brothers-in-law, Winfred (Chanel) of New Orleans, LA., John (Lillie), Lavon (Debra) both of Detroit, MI, Gerald (Majorie) of Montgomery and Joe Herndon of Fresno, CA; four God-children, Shonda, Randolph, Deshaun and Nicole; devoted and caring neighbors, the Gabriel and Newens families; twenty three nieces, thirteen nephews and several uncles, aunts, cousins and friends.
