The Charles Henderson cheerleading squad reaped some individual honors and slew of team awards at the NCA team camp earlier this month.

The squad won several trophies at the camp in Macon, Ga., on the campus of Mercer University.

Nikki Knox led the team with a solid performance in the All-American competition. The entire team competed in the All-American competition, and six were named to the All-American squad. Of all the cheerleaders at the camp, Knox finished with the highest score

"I can go to the Hula Bowl, but I don't think I'll have time," Knox said.

The contestants in this competition were judged on jump, motion, gymnastics and several other criteria and were awarded points in all those categories.

Of the nine Charles Henderson cheerleaders who competed, the following six made the team: captain Adrianne Bazzell, Chelsea Haisten, Niki Blumentritt, Felicia Bean, Knox and Allison McCurley.

The team also won the Herkie Award, given to the squad that displayed the most unity and teamwork in the camp. Squads nominate each other for the Herkie Award, and the squads do not nominate themselves.

The Trojan squad also finished with awards for competition in jump, motion and several other areas. The Trojans won the camp spirit stick, but they did not win the camp championship.

"We had some trouble in the stunt," sponsor Sharon Rhodes said. "We had a couple of girls get hurt, and they weren't able to perform."

The Trojan cheerleaders are now trying to concentrate on the football season, set to begin Aug. 22. The girls will be selling their normal array of flags and yard signs, but they will also introduce a gameday T-shirt this season.

"We want everyone to wear them to school the day of the games and to the games," Rhodes said.

The T-shirts will be $12 and the collared polo shirt will be $15.
