The Troy Dixie Youth baseball team will be headed to Duncanville this morning for a shot at the state championship.
The Dixie Youth, winners of the district tournament in Ozark a week ago, will begin play in the Dixie Youth State Tournament Saturday at 8 p.m. against Prattville. The opening ceremonies take place tonight, and the team will leave for the tournament today at 10 a.m.
"I think we can do well," Troy coach Ken Harris said. "We've got some pitching, and if the pitchers will do well, I think we've got a chance to stay around past the first two games."
The most recent Troy team to advance to the state tournament in Dixie Youth was four years ago, and they failed to manage a win in their first two games.
The tournament is a 10-team, double-elimination tournament. The other teams in the tournament are, Saraland, Hartselle, Oxford, host team Duncanville-Moundville, Taylorville, Auburn, Shelby County and Rainsville
If Troy wins its first-round game against Prattville, the Nationals will play the winner of the Shelby County-Rainsville game Sunday at 4 p.m.
