Marlins stay unbeaten in TABL baseball action

The Marlins of the Troy Amateur Baseball League remained undefeated Sunday with a pair of wins in a doubleheader.

The Marlins defeated the Braves 5-0 in the first game, and they defeated the Pirates 5-4 in the second to move to 5-0 in league play.

The Marlins looked to be on their way to their first loss of the season in game two. The Pirates held a 4-1 lead after the fourth inning, but Terrance Boyd hit a two-run

home run in the bottom of the seventh to win the game 5-4.

But the Marlins slowly etched their way back into the game. Marcus Bryant hit a solo home run in the fifth inning to cut the lead to 4-2.

After holding the Pirates scoreless in the top of the sixth, the Marlins closed to within one run in the bottom of the sixth. Jamie Hill hit an RBI triple to score Henry Lewis and make the score 4-3.

The Marlins won the game in the bottom of the seventh on the strength of two employees of the Pike County school system. Fred Holland led off with a single, and Boyd hit a two-run homer to win the game for the Marlins.

The Pirates scored first in the game, as leadoff hitter Adam Brendelson scored on a Chad Edwards RBI single. Brendelson reached base on an infield error.

The Marlins tied the game in the bottom of the inning when Boyd hit an RBI single to score Matt Floyd.

The Pirates scored a run in the third and two in the fourth to build a 4-1 lead, but the Marlins came back.

In the first game of the day, the Marlins defeated the Braves 5-0 in five innings. The game was called because of the time limit at two hours.

Brock Keith pitched five innings of shutout baseball and barely missed a no hitter. The Braves hit a one-out single in the fifth inning to break up the no hitter.

Marcus Bryant helped the Marlins score two runs in the first inning by hitting a two-run triple. Holland and Boyd scored on the play.

The Marlins added two more in the second. Brian McLendon hit a two-out, RBI single to score Wes Johnson. Matt Floyd then hit an RBI triple to score McLendon and make the game 4-0.

The Marlins added one more in the fifth on Boyd's solo home run to make the score 5-0. The inning did not finish before time was called.
