The finals of the Troy tennis city championship will be played today. The finals will be played in doubles action at 1 p.m., and the consolation and fifth-place matches will be played at 1:30.
The semifinals in singles action will start play at 3 p.m. at the Lunsford Tennis Complex.
The winners of the Cardinal division in doubles play are Mike Davis and Steve Brown. They will face the team of Sohail Agboatwala and Jack Byars, who won the Black division.
Davis-Brown advanced to the finals by winning two matches in the round-robin tournament. Davis-Brown defeated the team of Chuck Carter and Kenny Cox 6-3, 6-3 in the first round. Davis-Brown followed that by defeating Bob Lambert and George Merritt in straight sets 6-3, 6-4 in the next round.
In the Black division, Agboatwala-Byars took care of Benny Pinckard and Tim McQuitty in the first round 6-4, 6-2. The next round was a little closer. Agboatwala-Byars needed a tie-break win in the first set to defeat Kevin Jackson and Bill Emerson 7-6, 6-3.
The consolation match will face Lambert-Merritt against Jackson-Emerson. The fifth-place match will pair Cox-Carter against Pinckard-McQuitty.
In singles play, only one match was determined at press time. Mike Davis secured a bye in the first round and will face Agboatwala in one of the semifinal matches today at 3 p.m. Agboatwala defeated Pinckard 6-1, 6-2 to advance to the semifinals.
