Troy Nationals win sub-district title

The Troy Dixie Youth tournament teams will battle each other in the first round of the district tournament today at 6 p.m. in Ozark.

The Troy Dixie Youth Nationals cemented the matchup with a 16-0, four-inning, no-hit victory over Newton in the championship game of the sub-district tournament.

Dario Rouse led Troy to the victory. He hit two home runs, drove in six runs and pitched three innings of shutout baseball. William Teal pitched the final inning and also kept Newton hitless.

Newton's starting pitcher Samaj Brackins held Troy scoreless for two innings, but when Newton brought in the relief pitcher, Troy took notice.

Troy scored 13 runs in the top of the third inning. Trey Walters led off with a double to start the inning. Logan Stewart and Chase Connell then walked to load the bases.

The first run was scored when Dontae Harris singled. Will Starling drew and RBI walk, Douglas Hawkins singled and Teal hit a double.

After Jake Smith walked, Rouse hit his first home run of the night. The three-run shot gave Troy an even bigger lead.

Ethan Harris reached on an error, Bradley Floyd singled, Wesley Hayes singled and Walters walked in his second plate appearance of the inning. He scored the 13th and final run of the inning.

Troy added three more runs in the fourth inning. Hawkins walked and Teal singled to put a pair of runners on base for Rouse. He hit his second three-run homer to put Troy ahead 16-0.

Rouse, Teal and Hawkins led Troy with two hits each. Ethan Harris, Dontae Harris, Floyd, Hayes and Walters each grabbed two hits.
