Luverne – The inclement weather held off for most of 11 innings of excitement between two teams that just would not give up trying on Saturday evening. The battle ended with Luverne winning a trip to Dothan on Monday night to face Troy American in the Dixie Minors District 6 double-elimination tournament.

Troy National was the home team during the most exciting game in several years of Dixie Minor action in the sub-district, with Luverne taking the plate first.

Through the first inning, neither Luverne nor Troy scored any runs – Luverne sent four batters to the plate, followed by five batters from Troy.

Luverne broke the silence with three runs in the second inning. Clint Norris was the first batter, and answered the call with a single. Trent Norris followed this with a walk, and then third baseman Zane Sexton nailed a double, bringing Clint Norris in.

Shortstop Adam Sport was credited with an RBI, bringing Trent Norris in for a tying run, although popping up to right field, where Troy's Andrew Quincey made the catch. After three innings of play the score 3-0 Luverne.

Troy did not score any runs in the second, third or fourth inning of play.

In the third inning, Luverne made one more run to the board with Burke Hermeling answering the call and crossing the plate, making the score Luverne 4, Troy 0.

Troy countered in the fifth inning of play, scoring three runs, supplied by second baseman Jalin Lawson, Evan Strother and Andrew Quincey. After five full innings, the score was Luverne 4, Troy National 3.

Troy tied the game at 4-all in the sixth inning, on a run by Josh Starling. No other scoring exchange was made, and the game went into overtime with the expiration of the sixth inning, 4-4.

In the seventh inning of play, Luverne sent four batters up, while Troy sent three – neither team scored.

The eighth inning was also fruitless for both teams, although six Luverne batters went to bat, while Troy National sent four.

Neither team scored during the ninth or tenth innings of play.

Going into the eleventh inning, Luverne was able to score two more runs – these came from Clint Norris and Cody Moses. The game expired with Luverne the victors after Troy sent four batters to the plate, but none of them were able to score any more runs.

With the win, Luverne took the first place trophy for Sub-District 1, while Troy National took runner up honors.
