The Dixie Minor Nationals whipped Brantley 9-2 Tuesday to remain in contention for a trip to Dothan for the district tournament.

The sub-district in Luverne has been forced back by rain delays for three days, and Troy played only its second game of the tournament Tuesday. Troy lost to Luverne in the tournament's first game Saturday.

"We won't be finished until Saturday, and that's if there's no more rainouts," coach Greg Carroll said. "The weather tonight, though, was pleasant."

Troy put the game away with a six-run inning in the third. Troy overcame a slow start to get the 9-2 win.

"We started playing ball after the first inning," Carroll said.

Carroll's son Sam Carroll had the team's only extra-base hit. Sam Carroll hit a double.

Only three players were multiple-hitters in the game. Dalton Harris, Andrew Quincy

Evan Strother all

hit a pair of singles.

Also hitting for the Nationals were Jayden Barnes, who was also the winning pitcher, Michael Benton, Gerard Pollard and Jalen Lawson.

Troy will face Georgiana today at 6 p.m. in another elimination game. In Tuesday's late game, Greenville defeated Luverne 4-3 to send Luverne to the loser's bracket.

"We want to face Luverne again," Carroll said. "Not taking anything away from them when they beat us, they played a great game, but we didn't play well in that game."
